The First 17 Weeks

We found out we were expecting on October 15, 2013. I was 3 weeks and 1 day. We were both very excited but didn't want to tell anyone since it was so early. I am not a secret keeper and this was almost the death of me. We decided we would wait until after our first doctor's appointment to spill the beans. Our doctor doesn't see pregnancy patients until they are at least 8 weeks along, so we had to wait until November 12 for our first appointment. It came and we saw an adorable blob with a heartbeat.

The next weekend we had River's 5th birthday party at Jon's parents' house. Since we knew all of our families and close friends would be there we waited until then to surprise everyone. I sewed a shirt for River that said Big Bro on it and had him open it last. When he opened it he promptly discarded to enjoy his bigger, cooler presents. It took several tries to get him to hold it up but when he finally did there was an audible gasp, clapping, laughing, and tears from the crowd. It is one of my favorite memories already.

Weeks 8 - 14 I got to enjoy all of the typical first trimester symptoms. Morning sickness, exhaustion, moodiness, trouble sleeping, a few headaches, I didn't miss any of them.

We went back to the doctor for our second appointment on December 20. We had an ultrasound where we found out this baby is going to be stubborn. He/She was in a comfortable spot and didn't want to move for the tech to get the measurements she needed. After being poked and prodded he/she finally turned enough for the tech to get a good look and then quickly turned back. That appointment lasted forever. It included a minor mishap with me not being checked into the correct appointment (I know which receptionist to avoid), a full exam, tons of questions, and lots of blood given by me. It was nice to go into Christmas knowing the baby was looking good.

On Christmas day we shared out our news on Facebook. The picture was River holding our ultrasound picture with a "Merry Christmas from K'Lynn, Jon, River, and Baby Reynolds" message. We received so many calls and congratulatory texts, it made that day extra special.

We have been back to the doctor once since then. It was a very average checkup. Everything looks great so far. I am now sporting a baby bump and feeling the baby move. We will go back to the doctor on February 10 and will find out the gender then. We are patiently waiting and not counting down the days (16 if you must know).
